We enjoyed the The Vulcan Hello and The Battle at the Binary Stars last week, but we LOVED Context is for Kings this week. This episode delivered in just about every way could ask for. The characters are interesting and compelling and clues for this seasons mysteries are scattered about. Captain Lorca is not what he seems to be! This smells like a section 31 ship to us! Synthaholics Episode 133: Star Trek Discovery Pilot

On Sunday September 24th 2017 the Star Trek Discovery pilots aired. The new show is finally here! We will be covering both pilot episodes The Vulcan Hello and Battle at the Binary Stars this week on the show.

To start of this episode we give general first impressions before getting heavily into spoilers. There is so much great Star Trek to be found here the show has a lot of promise. Together the episodes are defiantly stronger than they were separately.

We are very much looking forward to the rest of the season. While Discovery is on we will be covering it each week. We hope you enjoy this trek into the first new Star Trek in over a decade! Synthaholics Episode 132: Assignment Earth?

Do you remember that time Star Trek did a backdoor pilot back in the second season? David didn’t until Aaron suggested that we watch the original series episode Assignment Earth.

This episode centers around this cat named Isis and her human secret agent Gary Seven. The Enterprise some how intercepts their transporter beam while for some strange reason being on a mission to observe 1968. Assignment Earth is Star Trek the animated series level of strange! We are thankful there was a letter writing campaign to bring Star Trek back for a third season otherwise this could of been the series finale of the Original Series!

This episode has some very fascinating historical events happen close to the episodes release that were hinted at within the episode. Also is Gary Seven a Time Lord? If not then where did he get that Sonic Screwdriver? Pour yourself an extra strong drink it’s about to get weird on your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week on Synthaholics Jen The Klingon Pop Warrior takes us Once More Unto the Breach! Jenbom our guest this week is the Klingon Pop Warrior.

We ask her to tell her story to how she got into singing songs in Klingon. Jen also wanted to talk about the amazing Star Trek Deep Space Nine episode Once More Unto the Breach. Jen lets us know that even though this in an amazing episode there was only one real Klingon word in the whole episode.

Episode 130: Kipleigh Brown and James Kerwin return!

This week on Synthaholics guests Kipleigh Brown and James Kerwin return to talk Star Trek Continues. James Kerin directed and wrote the teleplay for the recent Star Trek Continues episode “Embracing the Winds”. Kipleigh Brown plays Smith on Star Trek Continues and she wrote the teleplay for the most recent episode “What Ships Are For”. We found out the cast and crew recently had screenings of “What Ships Are For” at ILM and and Pixar so we got to hear about that. Writing becomes a major topic of the episode and this gets us sidetracked into discussing recent science fiction film! It was an absolute pleasure having Kipleigh and James join us this week, so we hope you enjoy this extra special shot of Star Trek!

Have you ever sent a Message in a Bottle? Well it doesn’t really seem Voyager really did on this episode with the same name. It seemed like it was maybe more like message in a doctor? That’s not the only part of the episode that doesn’t make sense.

But before we try to crawl backwards into the bottle, for news we talk a little about the Orville because I don’t think it is something we have really touched on. Black Mirror’s new season is mentioned because they have one episode for the upcoming season that is visually similar to Star Trek.

Star Trek Voyager’s Message in a Bottle guest stars Andy Dick as the EMH II. There is some great back and forth between Robert Picardo and Andy Dick that are some of the best parts of the episode. The B plot just feels kind of like a waste of time. Also why does sending a file cause the file to be lost? All this and more this week on Synthaholics your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week we talk the Deep Space Nine episode Explorers with Andrew Dumais. Andrew has been a past guest on the show. He was on our episode about The Doctors and our Religion and Star Trek episode. We hope you enjoyed the Ben and Jake Sisko bit Aaron and David did back on our episode about the Jem’Hadar because that bit is back in a big way!

Before we get into the episode we talk some Star Trek news mostly dealing with Star Trek Discovery’s Jason Isaacs. Over the past week or so he has made a wave in the Star Trek community with some of his fascinating comments.

This episode heavily features the father and son dynamic so after the main episode discussion Aaron poses the question to Andrew and David if they had any memorable times with their fathers. Once we answer we turn the question to Aaron and his is probably one of the more interesting stories that we get to hear. Where’s the rum you are gonna need it on this solar sail ship because it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week we discuss the Ballad of Harry Mudd. Harcourt Fenton Mudd appeared three times in Star Trek’s past and will be appearing in the upcoming Star Trek Discovery. So in preparation we are talking about the Star Trek The Original Series episodes Mudd’s Women and I, Mudd as well as the Star Trek Animated Series episode Mudd’s Passion.

Before we get started we talk about the unfortunate news of LeVar Burton being sued over a catch phrase. After the news we quickly give the synopsis for each of the three episodes then get deep into our Mudd discussion. Harry is a really fun character even if his episodes weren’t the greatest.

We are excited to see how Rainn Wilson’s take on Mudd will be in Discovery and we are very much hoping his personality will be intact. It’s that time of the week again break out the liquors and make your favorite drinks because it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 126: Cause and Effect with Joe DePinto live from STLV

This week we talk Cause and Effect with Joe DePinto live from STLV. STLV is the Star Trek Las Vegas convention it is the largest Star Trek Con in the United States. Since Joe was still at the convention when we recorded this week he tells us what he has been up to at the con.

The stories from the con are great and one of Joe’s favorite episodes is the Star Trek The Next Generation episode Cause and Effect. This is a very fun episode that uses time travel in a new way for its time. If you think this is a copy of Groundhog Day this episode actually came out first!

Once we break down the episode we get into a discussion about our experiences with Déjà vu. The talk of Déjà vu makes David think of his fascination with the mandela effect. We go over a few examples of this effect and what the theory of how so many people can have false memories. Grab your favorite drink and your cards it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
