Welcome to the 300th episode of Synthholics. Aaron and David celebrate this milestone by talking about life, the universe, and everything. This week we look back over almost six years and 300 episodes of Synthaholics. As part of this discussion we explain our current feelings about Star Trek as it currently exists and mention some of our goals for the podcast once we come back from our break. Think of this time as the end of a season and we’ll be back for the next season. We have a listener email this week with some suggestions for the show when we come back. Please feel free to email us during the break and if we have enough emails we could devote an entire episode to reading emails from you the listeners. We will also be around on social media so feel free to message us on Twitter or Facebook and please join the group on Facebook. David is looking into steaming games over Twitch, find the link below. We will see you on Twitch and in episode 301.
This week David, Aaron and Guy break away from the Expanse to talk about current issues. Warning: this episode we do get very political! As our country struggles with the issues of race and equality we dive into a classic Deep Space Nine episode. In this story the Prophets transport Sisko to the 1950s. Sisko becomes Benny Russell, a science-fiction writer that struggles with civil rights and inequality. When Benny writes his best story of Captain Benjamin Sisko a black commander of a futuristic space station. Benny is met with resistance to his story. This story echoes what we are seeing today and we break down our feelings and views of these issues in depth. It isn’t the easiest listen. Reality can be harsh. So pour yourself a strong drink. Enjoy together responsibly!
This week, listen to Aaron, David, and Holly from last week talk about a Deep Space Nine’s 149th episode where Sisco, O’Brian, and Bashir talk to a woman from three years past… And no, we do not divulge our innermost thoughts to strangers in this episode. “The Sound of Her Voice” Season 6 episode 25 of Deep Space Nine coerces Sisco, O’brian, and Bashir to reflect on their personal lives while a woman they have never met struggles to stay amongst the living; Oh and, Quark makes some Money. Top off yer Whiskey so we can do this proper… Slainte!
David has returned this week and Holly gets to witness first hand the boys impressions of Ben and Jake’s relationship. All joking aside, The Visitor is a Deep Space Nine episode that covers death and coping with the loss of a parent, time travel, a stalker, a message about remembering to live your life, and then more death and time travel! We have a special clip for you this week, as David had the privilege of not only hosting a panel for Tony Todd at Nickel City Con in Buffalo NY, but Tony graciously agreed to an interview for the podcast and gave us his personal account on the episode, and shed some more light on the Axanar drama. So get ready for another Star Trek discussion, and remember to dodge any energy discharges that may come your way!
Who’s a character we haven’t really spent a ton of time talking about? Well that would be Jadzia Dax! We feel like this character was underutilized and so our doing our first Spotting Dax Episode. This week we look briefly at the Star Trek Deep Space Nine pilot Emissary before jumping into the first Dax centric episode called…. you guessed Dax. Not really any news to talk this week but we do discuss what it may be like to live on in another body humanoid or otherwise! I hope you have some slug symbiont juice nearby, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek.
This week Holly Michelle joins Aaron and David to talk the Star Trek Deep Space Nine Episode House of Quark. Before we get into the episode we have some Star Trek Discovery news. Anson Mount Black Bolt himself has been cast as Christopher Pike for Season two of Star Trek Discovery. We also got strange news with next to no explanation that the enterprise had to be 25% due to “legal reasons”. We all found this to sound pretty suspect. Our house of Quark discussion goes pretty fast as it is more a fun episode then a deep episode. Holly brings up how Grelka is a strong female character so we have a general discussion about female leads in Star Trek. Why do you sit back and grab a Synthale it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek

Episode 159: The Prime Directive Part 4 DS9/VOY Era
How much do you love the rules? The boys are back again to dive back into the Prime Directive. This week we move into the TNG films, Deep Space Nine, and we start on the very long list that is Voyager! But before we get into this weeks topic Aaron and David discuss the Star Trek Discover deleted scene that was revealed at Wondercon this Past weekend. Once we get into the Voyager episodes Aaron has something very important he needs to gets off his chest and later David makes a very inappropriate joke at B’Elanna Torres expense. This week you’ll hear our take on “Insurrection”, “Nemesis”, “Emissary”, “The Circle”, “Caretaker”, “Prototype”, and “Threshold” to name a few of the times general order one may or may not have been violated by our heros! Might as well break out the Romulan Ale
This week on Synthaholics we discuss the Star Trek DS9 Visionary! Visionary is a third season episode that features yet again the suffering of one Chief O’Brien. Aaron and David have a great time getting into this Deep Space Nine episode that we both haven’t seen in quite a while. We love how everyone is so cool with the random time travel that happens. The O’Brien’s suffering is turned up a notch this episode as he dies 3 times! We hope you enjoy this fantastic blast from the past with us. Pick up yourself some Romulan ale or watch my recipe on YouTube to make your very own. It’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
