Synthaholics Episode 124: Enterprise Twilight

Remember the Star Trek Enterprise Twilight where a space anomaly gave poor archer brain parasites that were out of phase with time?  This basically makes Archer like the guy in the movie Memento!

Without being able to form new memories Archer can no longer command the Enterprise and this leads to many disasters. But before we get into the episode we talk about some of the props, costumes and ships that were shown off at San Diego Comic Con. Alas we recorded the episode early so we didn’t get to talk about the new trailer this week.

These are two fascinating episodes of Star Trek and bring up interesting moral dilemmas such as; are holograms actual life forms, at what point does artificial intelligence become sentient, and are their any safeguards being considered to prevent this from happening? In addition to the celebrities, we were also able to speak with artists and con goers who were attending the convention to ask their thoughts about the Star Trek Discovery trailer that just aired last week.  We got to hear from a variety of people ranging from non fans of Star Trek all the way up to people in full on Star Trek cosplay. The Traveler appeared in three episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation over the seven seasons of the series. We briefly talk about the trek news before diving into the myth and lore behind the Traveler and his three fingers special! Ironically both Aaron and David didn’t remember the Traveler’s appearance in the episode Remember Me. The Traveler also appears in Where no one has gone before and Journey’s End. We speculate about Wesley’s origin and how it may tie into this character! We also talk about how creepy The Traveler seems to be. Are you thirsty? When David is missing Aaron and Guy talk Giant cats and comics! This week Synthaholics goes into a deep dive on the Star Trek the animated series episode The Slaver Weapon. What would you put into a time capsule if you knew everything in it would be perfectly preserved? Lets hope it wouldn’t be a selfie, raw meat, and a swiss army gun. But if you did the Kzinti would probably appreciate it. This is one of two episodes where we ever see the Kzinti a bipedal cat like race who is bent on uncovering something to overthrow the federation. Once Aaron and Guy finish talking The Slaver weapon they get into a discussion about Guy’s Star Trek comic the USS Tamerlane. This leads to a segue to a Star Trek The Wrath of Khan and to Star Trek Nemesis! Anything and everything in this week’s episode of Synthaholics!

We still keep the humor coming but this is a bit on the deeper side of Synthaholics! After you get out of a 20 year jail sentence what is the first thing you get to drink? This week Aaron and David are alone to talk about Star Trek Voyager season 5 episode The Disease. We wanted to get into this episode because we referenced it the last time we spoke about Voyager in the Nightingale episode. Two is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do when you are Harry Kim and there is no reason you can’t be together in the story. He can’t be with his love because of silly 90’s television rules! This is a surprisingly strong episode of Voyager even though it is a Kim strong episode. We have fun discussing the episode and making up silly words for the parts of love! Aaron brings it with some great background info The Disease’s two main guest stars be sure to listen till the end to hear these. There are no borg in this episode but we did have a Borg Queen Martini to drink. You know the drill mix or pour yourself a drink because it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek.
