Episode 213: Star Trek Discovery S2 Roundtable with Trekyards

Holly and David welcome Captain Foley and Commander Cockings of Trekyards to the show this week. We are making it a tradition to have Trekyards join us for our yearly postseason Star Trek Discovery round table discussion. Unfortunately the red angels have captured Aaron to do unspeakable things to him 950 years in the future. We discuss our thoughts on Discovery with two whole seasons under our belts with some of our highs and lows of the season. We also get into some light speculation on what could be coming in season three of Star Trek Discovery. Samuel has some times to fan films and so we talk about fan films and how the guidelines have been affecting them. Pour yourself a drink it’s time for your weekly shot of sci-fi.

Arron, Holly, and David are back this week to talk the TNG Episode Realm of Fear! No Star Trek news this week but the next Short Trek will be out before we record next week so we should of that to talk about next week. Realm of Fear is one of the Next Generation Episodes that features Dwight Schultz as Barclay! Barclay is one of our favorite recurring characters in Star Trek, so it’s about time we do an episode that is all about him.

In this episode we learn Barclay has an extreme and possibly irrational fear of being transported. Barclay must overcome his fears to help solve the mystery about what happened to the USS Yosemite. Because this episode focuses on his fear that seems to be on the irrational side we get into a discussion on what some of our irrational fears are! Holly is missing but David and Aaron must boldly continue on to discuss the first Star Trek reboot film, Star Trek the Star Trek. Before we get into the main topic this week we discuss the news that Michelle Yeoh may be getting her own Star Trek spin off. Also this week the latest Short Trek is out unfortunately Aaron has not seen it but David has and he gives this thoughts on the second short trek.

It has been a while since we have discussed a Star Trek movie on the podcast and since we have covered both into darkness and Star Trek Beyond, Star Trek 2009 seems like a good choice. While we both enjoyed this film for what it is, Aaron and David are both a little more worried now about the future of Star Trek on TV with Alex Kurtzman at the helm. You could also be pining for a woman for 8 years just to find out she only wants to be friends. Or you could steal the most advanced federation warship and then turn yourself over to the Cardassians to work the rest of your days in a labor camp. You could also be promised a daring rescue by a woman who forgets about you when she falls in love with a changeling. The Ballad of Thomas Riker is one paved with much sorrow and regret!

But before we jump into Star Trek The Next Generation episode “Second Chances” and the DS9 episode “Defiant” we have some more exciting star trek news to talk about! HollyMichelle has finished Star Trek Discovery so it’s time for Aaron and David to get her thoughts on episodes seven through fifteen! Aaron will be at his Numina Comics table and David will be floating around the con.

HollyMIchelle has some very fascinating thoughts on Discovery as she went into the show with just about no info. She brings up many ideas that Aaron and I never really considered on our thoughts on Star Trek Discovery. Once we finish her takes the episodes shes asks us about our approach to talking about the show in the past. We discuss the current state of Star Trek and we get Larry’s take on the current hot topic Star Trek Discovery.

Larry worked on Star Trek Continues and we ask him about the two part finale and his involvement towards the end of Star Trek Continues. This week we talk Cause and Effect with Joe DePinto live from STLV. STLV is the Star Trek Las Vegas convention it is the largest Star Trek Con in the United States. Since Joe was still at the convention when we recorded this week he tells us what he has been up to at the con.

The stories from the con are great and one of Joe’s favorite episodes is the Star Trek The Next Generation episode Cause and Effect. This is a very fun episode that uses time travel in a new way for its time. If you think this is a copy of Groundhog Day this episode actually came out first!

Once we break down the episode we get into a discussion about our experiences with Déjà vu. The talk of Déjà vu makes David think of his fascination with the mandela effect. We go over a few examples of this effect and what the theory of how so many people can have false memories. Grab your favorite drink and your cards it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
