Episode 193: Jetrel

It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star.

Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week it was announced that there was going to be a new Star Trek animated sitcom called Lower Decks! We all give our thoughts and opinions on this new show before we break down Catspaw.

Catspaw was designed to be a Halloween episode of Star Trek so we thought it was a prefect time do discuss this episode. Beware all who enter and listen to this podcast, lots of silliness ensues cat and bird noises abound! This episode we also talk about how Halloween was for each of us growing up, turns out the three of us all had some pretty strict upbringings when it comes to Halloween. This week Robbie Palmer of The Nerdynomicon joins Aaron, Holly, and David to discuss the sci-fi/horror cult classic film Event Horizon. Before we get into the main topic there was not a whole lot of Star Trek news this week but, a new photo of L’Rell with hair was released so we do briefly touch on this.

This week’s recap takes awhile to get through as we have so much to say about his movie as things come up. Aaron and David welcome Jeff Heller, of Film Dumpster, to the show to discuss the Star Trek TNG two parter Time’s Arrow. Before we get into the episode discussion Jeff talks to us about Film Dumpster and what they do there. San Diego Comic Con was this past week so we talk the trailers for Star Trek Discovery and The Orville season 2.

Jeff is a big fan of time travel so Time’s Arrow was a great episode to talk about. In this episode the crew of the enterprise go back in time to stop these soul sucking aliens and to find out why they found a 500 year old Data head. In this adventure they meet up with Ginun of the past, Jack London, and Mark Twain! Time to make yourself an Old Fashioned it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
