Episode 202: Saints of Imperfection Discovery S2E5

This week our friend Joe DePinto joins Holly, Aaron, and David to discuss Saints of Imperfection, the fifth episode of the second season of Star Trek Discovery. Beware this episode contains full spoilers for Saints of Imperfection. Before we get started on talking about the latest Star Trek Discovery episode we respond to the news that a Star Trek Animated Series is being developed for children on Nickelodeon. We also recall how some of us couldn’t watch certain shows on Nickelodeon or were prohibited from watching the channel at all! This week we still don’t get any Spock but we do get Section 31 and Admiral Cornwell makes her first appearance in season two this week. Time to pour yourself a drink from your stash that isn’t as secret as you thought it would be. It’s time for you weekly shot of Star Trek!

Phillip Malerich joins Holly, Aaron, and David to discuss Star Trek Discovery episode three, Point of Light. Before we get into full spoilers for Point of Light we discuss the Anson Mount Tweet about he and Ethan Peck are looking for work. We mention our theory that Discovery will have revolving captains each season. Even if that isn’t the case. Discovery is between seasons and the actors could use some work between seasons. It’s our 200th episode and we go long this week’s episode with Ash/Voq, the klingons, Georgiou and Section 31 all making a comeback this week. We hope this week isn’t a one off and that it really is setting up the remainder of the season. Discovery season two continues to delight with call back to Star Trek 6 and to The Next Generation. Break out the bloodwine it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Before we get to the episode this week we hear some news about the Quentin Tarantino Star Trek since the Kelvin Star Trek 4 seems to be on hold. This podcast has full spoilers for New Eden please be sure to watch the episode before giving this podcast a listen if you don’t want to be spoiled. New Eden was a fun episode and it’s probably the most Star Trek like Star Trek Discovery has ever felt and this is a great thing. Happy New Year! We are back this week we have a lot to talk about. We have the newest Short Trek The Escape Artist, a listener request the Voyager episode Tsunkatse, and a listener email!

Aaron and Holly really seemed to enjoy The Escape Artist but David was excited for it but ultimately let down by the short. We all enjoyed Tsunkatse but we failed to make an Rock impressions. The Rock was not the only notable guest star, this episode also features Jeffrey Combs and J. G. Hertzler who both appear in Deep Space Nine and in Enterprise. This was a fun episode and there is just one more podcast episode before we start podcasting on Star Trek Discovery! Episode 193: Jetrel

It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star.

Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Jeff is a big fan of time travel so Time’s Arrow was a great episode to talk about. In this episode the crew of the enterprise go back in time to stop these soul sucking aliens and to find out why they found a 500 year old Data head.
