Episode 210: Such Sweet Sorrow Discovery S2E13

Aaron, Holly, and David are all together to discuss Such Sweet Sorrow the second to last episode of the second season of Star Trek Discovery. Much like season one of Star Trek Discovery this episode does a lot to set up what will happen in the finale while withholding all the action for the finale. Even though this is the case it is an episode full of character moments for character other than Michael and we get a great look at the updated Enterprise bridge and it is a truly beautiful sight to behold.

We are all looking forward to see next week’s episode to see how the wrap up the season. There are a  ton of possibilities many of which could be very exciting. Once we finish the episode discussion we have a bit of a PSA at the end to clarify our thoughts on Star Trek and Discovery as a whole. Pete Herr of The Geekiverse joins Aaron and David  today to talk The Sounds of Thunder, Star Trek Discovery’s sixth episode of season two. Unfortunately Holly was abducted by the Red Angel this week she’ll have to tell us how that was once we get her back! Not much going this week in news except for the sad news of Star Trek actor Morgan Woodward passing away at the age of 93. This week the crew of the Discovery heads to Kamanar after a Red Angel sighting. The Ba’ul the predator race on Kamanar don’t like to talk to outsiders but Saru and his sister get an intimate meeting with one of the Ba’ul. After this meeting Saru gives us our best look at the Red Angel yet! Who could it be? Pour yourself a glass of Ba’ul Kamanar famous Kelpian Whiskey it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week we still don’t get any Spock but we do get Section 31 and Admiral Cornwell makes her first appearance in season two this week. On the last week before Discovery season two starts we thought we’d cover Interstellar one of our favorite modern sci-fi films. Before we get into Interstellar we do have some Star Trek news.

Star Trek 4 seems to be on hold for an indeterminate amount of time with the director now signed to work on the Game of Thrones prequel show. We also got news that more Short Treks are expected to be coming and some details on the Picard show.

Beware if you have not seen Interstellar we do go full spoiler on the movie. Though if you have listened to us for any amount of time you know we go full spoilers when discussing movies. We really enjoy Interstellar for its use of black holes and time dilation to tell an engaging story. We hope you enjoy your weekly shot of Science Fiction and Michael Caine impersonations!

It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star.

Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
