What happens when transporter accidents don’t kill you? Aaron and David are here to recount the ballad of Thomas Riker. Some fates are worse than death, like being stuck alone for 8 years to find out that you actually did make it out. You could also be pining for a woman for 8 years just to find out she only wants to be friends. Or you could steal the most advanced federation warship and then turn yourself over to the Cardassians to work the rest of your days in a labor camp. You could also be promised a daring rescue by a woman who forgets about you when she falls in love with a changeling. The Ballad of Thomas Riker is one paved with much sorrow and regret!

We ask her to tell her story to how she got into singing songs in Klingon. Jen also wanted to talk about the amazing Star Trek Deep Space Nine episode Once More Unto the Breach. Jen lets us know that even though this in an amazing episode there was only one real Klingon word in the whole episode.

This week we talk the Deep Space Nine episode Explorers with Andrew Dumais. Andrew has been a past guest on the show. He was on our episode about The Doctors and our Religion and Star Trek episode. We hope you enjoyed the Ben and Jake Sisko bit Aaron and David did back on our episode about the Jem’Hadar because that bit is back in a big way!

Before we get into the episode we talk some Star Trek news mostly dealing with Star Trek Discovery’s Jason Isaacs. Over the past week or so he has made a wave in the Star Trek community with some of his fascinating comments.

This episode heavily features the father and son dynamic so after the main episode discussion Aaron poses the question to Andrew and David if they had any memorable times with their fathers. Once we answer we turn the question to Aaron and his is probably one of the more interesting stories that we get to hear. It’s that time again it’s time to recount The Suffering of O’Brien Part 3. This week Aaron is back and we are discussing the Star Trek Deep Space Nine episode Whispers. Before we get into the episode we briefly discuss the elevator game and surprisingly it folds right into our topic for today. O’Brien has just returned from an away mission and everyone around his is acting strange. O’Brien believes something has taken over the crew of the station while he was away and he is trying to escape before he falls victim to whatever it is that has happened. But things are not as they seem! Once we recap the episode go into our thoughts on the episode and how this was a kind of missed opportunity to follow up conspiracy. Synthaholics Episode 116: Star Trek DS9 The Jem’Hadar

This week we talk the Star Trek DS9 episode The Jem’Hadar. This is the season two finale for Deep Space Nine and and our first good look at two of the major players for the Dominion, the Jem’Hadar and the Vorta! But before we talk The Jem’Hadar we reflect on our weekend at Nickel City Con and talk a little bit more about our experience there as well.David wildly speculates about Voyager after mentioning the segment you all heard last week with Erin Gray. The Dominion the Vorta and the Jem’Hadar seem wildly overpowered and are scarier in this episode then they seem to be going forward. To wrap up we also talk bridge design pointing out the Enterprise and Odyssey have different bridges so it’s totally feasible for the USS Shenzhou’s bridge to look very different from the pike era Enterprise. Make sure you prep your jambalaya before you go camping, and don’t forget the alcohol! It’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Miles Edward O’Brien is facing hard time in Deep Space Nine. This might be one of his hardest times! This week we talk about The Star Trek Deep Space Nine season four episode Hard Time. Aaron and David first talk some limited Trek news before delving into this week’s episode. Hard Time really gets the Synthaholics diving into a discussion on mental health, the justice system and the prison system. We still keep the humor coming but this is a bit on the deeper side of Synthaholics! After you get out of a 20 year jail sentence what is the first thing you get to drink? If you guest Synthale you are probably Irish! Personally I’d for for something harder but you choose whatever wets your whistle because it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
