Episode 173: Dear Doctor

After our fun filled episode last week it’s time to get serious, Aaron and David are back to discuss the Star Trek Enterprise episode “Dear Doctor”. “Dear Doctor” is a Phlox centered episode where he is asked to create a cure for the Valakians, a race dying of a genetic disease. The Valakians cohabits their planet peacefully with another humanoid race called the Menk.

Phlox ends up believing the Menk should be given a chance to thrive and with cure in hand he convinces Archer to not hand over the cure to the Valakians. After the recap of the episode Aaron and David debate whether or not Phlox and Archer committed genocide on the Valakians by as Kirk would say “Let them die!” We also have a listener email this week. Synthaholics Episode 124: Enterprise Twilight

Remember the Star Trek Enterprise Twilight where a space anomaly gave poor archer brain parasites that were out of phase with time? This basically makes Archer like the guy in the movie Memento!

Without being able to form new memories Archer can no longer command the Enterprise and this leads to many disasters. But before we get into the episode we talk about some of the props, costumes and ships that were shown off at San Diego Comic Con. Alas we recorded the episode early so we didn’t get to talk about the new trailer this week.

This week we are taking the Traveler! This is our first themed episode in quite some time! The Traveler appeared in three episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation over the seven seasons of the series. We briefly talk about the trek news before diving into the myth and lore behind the Traveler and his three fingers special! Ironically both Aaron and David didn’t remember the Traveler’s appearance in the episode Remember Me. The Traveler also appears in Where no one has gone before and Journey’s End. We speculate about Wesley’s origin and how it may tie into this character! We also talk about how creepy The Traveler seems to be. Are you thirsty?
