Episode 204: Light and Shadows

Guy Davis is back, he joins Holly, Aaron, and David to discuss Light and Shadows the seventh episode of the second season of Star Trek Discovery. Before we take our deep drive into the episode we have news regarding the character descriptions of the new characters appearing in the Picard show. The descriptions of the characters remind Aaron and David of the Star Trek Renegades fan film. This week’s episode splits the party with Michael going looking for spock while the crew of the Discovery deals with a temporal anomaly. This episode is a great set up for what is to come. Some of us enjoyed Light and Shadows and some of didn’t care for it as much. Pour yourself some of your finest futures liquor it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek

Episode 203: The Sounds of Thunder Discovery S2E6

Pete Herr of The Geekiverse joins Aaron and David today to talk The Sounds of Thunder, Star Trek Discovery’s sixth episode of season two. Unfortunately Holly was abducted by the Red Angel this week she’ll have to tell us how that was once we get her back! Not much going this week in news except for the sad news of Star Trek actor Morgan Woodward passing away at the age of 93. This week the crew of the Discovery heads to Kamanar after a Red Angel sighting. The Ba’ul the predator race on Kamanar don’t like to talk to outsiders but Saru and his sister get an intimate meeting with one of the Ba’ul. After this meeting Saru gives us our best look at the Red Angel yet! Who could it be? Pour yourself a glass of Ba’ul Kamanar famous Kelpian Whiskey it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

This week our friend Joe DePinto joins Holly, Aaron, and David to discuss Saints of Imperfection, the fifth episode of the second season of Star Trek Discovery. Beware this episode contains full spoilers for Saints of Imperfection. Before we get started on talking about the latest Star Trek Discovery episode we respond to the news that a Star Trek Animated Series is being developed for children on Nickelodeon. We also recall how some of us couldn’t watch certain shows on Nickelodeon or were prohibited from watching the channel at all! This week we still don’t get any Spock but we do get Section 31 and Admiral Cornwell makes her first appearance in season two this week. Time to pour yourself a drink from your stash that isn’t as secret as you thought it would be. It’s time for you weekly shot of Star Trek!

On the last week before Discovery season two starts we thought we’d cover Interstellar one of our favorite modern sci-fi films. Before we get into Interstellar we do have some Star Trek news.

Star Trek 4 seems to be on hold for an indeterminate amount of time with the director now signed to work on the Game of Thrones prequel show. We also got news that more Short Treks are expected to be coming and some details on the Picard show.

Beware if you have not seen Interstellar we do go full spoiler on the movie. Though if you have listened to us for any amount of time you know we go full spoilers when discussing movies. We really enjoy Interstellar for its use of black holes and time dilation to tell an engaging story. We hope you enjoy your weekly shot of Science Fiction and Michael Caine impersonations!

It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star.

Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Unfortunately this week was light on Star Trek news and Holly has yet to see the Short Trek Calypso.
