Episode 291: Star Trek Discovery “Die Trying”

Aaron has escaped this transporter accident and he joins David to discuss “Die Trying” the fifth episode of the third season of Star Trek Discovery. This episode started off strong with a nice captains log and a brief look at some new StarFleet ships. We see the USS Nog, the Voyager – J, and what they called a new version of the constitution class. The StarFleet Admiral isn’t too happy to have the time traveling crew but that’s nothing a classic fetch quest can’t fix. We were hoping to see some answers this week as we finally have our crew of the USS Discovery back in the heart of the federation but “Die Trying” has no answers and just leaves us with more questions. Emperor Georgou and her debriefing hold some of the most interesting things said and not said in this episode. We can’t wait to find out what all that is about. Aaron has unfortunately been caught in a transporter beam with poor Franklin. Natalie and David both enjoy the great Trill call back getting to spend some time with some familiar aliens is always fun. We also hope we get to run into more familiar races later on in the season. We also muse on where the season will go and our hopes for this season and beyond for Star Trek Discovery. This week is our last bread crumb until we find our way to the Federation. Episode 289: Star Trek Discovery People of Earth

Aaron and David are here to discuss “People of Earth”, the third episode of Star Trek Discovery Season 3. After hugs and tears the reunited crew of the USS Discovery and book head to earth. Things are a lot different than they expected them to me. Earth provides for itself and doesn’t seem to know what’s going on beyond its atmosphere. This has us scratching our heads as to why this would be. On the bright side we meet a young human named Adira who has a trill symbiont inside of her. Adira seems pretty interesting and we are looking forward to what happens with the Trill.Will Adira keep it? WIll she be able to unlock all the memories of the symbiont? Hopefully we will find out next week. It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Romulan Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

But first we have news that Star Trek Discovery is renewed for a fourth season, and creation is no longer doing the official Star Trek convention anymore. The upcoming Las Vegas Trek conventions have to be unofficial. “That Hope is You” featured michels time coming out of the worm hole this week we get to see what happens with Discovery as it comes out of the worm hole. Overall we really enjoyed this episode. What is going on with Keyla Detmer? Is she the latest crewmember to be infected by control? Or does she just have a concussion? Is control really dead? Aaron and David are back this week to discuss “That Hope is You, Part 1” the first episode of season 3 of Star Trek Discovery. This episode will contain spoilers. The episode is mostly carried by Sonequa Martin-Green who shows a huge range in her acting ability. While the story is mostly a fun chase sequence. We start off giving some non spoiler thoughts of the first episode before we get into deep spoilers. The 930 year jump Discovery has made the future opens up so many possibilities for where the season could go. It will be very interesting to see where it could go and we do some speculation on where the larger story could go and when we think we will see the rest of the crew. What do you think where this future story is heading? Could the temporal cold war still be causing issues? Only time will tell. In “The Seventh Man” Bobbie is rescued and is questioned about what happened since she is the sole survivor of her squad after the mirrors fell on Ganymede. In Pyre we meet the Ganymede botanist Praxidike Meng, now a refugee after the battle over Ganymede. Holden and the gang Save Fred Johnson but they part ways. Next week we start our coverage of the new Star Trek show Lower Decks. We will return to discussing The Expanse once season one of Lower Decks has been concluded. Dave is away this week. Aaron and returning guest Guy Davis discuss the trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks. The newest animated comedy from CBS All Access from the Rick and Morty creator Mike McMahan.

Next we dish on The Expanse episodes “Static” & “Godspeed”. With Miller killing of the scientist Dresden there is a rift with the Ratiocinate crew. Miller is out, but he has a great idea to stop the outbreak on Eros from spreading. Cortazar, the lead scientist of protomolecule has information about Eros’ outbreak. But can they get him to work with them to stop the outbreak. Fred Johnson clues Chrisjen Avasarala as to where a derelict stealth ship is floating in space. The stealth ship is connected to Protogen and Jules-Pierre Mao. And that spells trouble for Jules Mao. Pour yourself a cold beverage and listen to more Expanse. Enjoy together responsibly!
