Episode 109: Ghost in the Shell

Josiah LeRoy joins us to talk about the recent Ghost in the Shell film starring Scarlett Johansson. But before we get into that we talk some The Walking Dead spoilers and what that means for our Star Trek Discovery lead Sonequa Martin-Green. Aaron and David are huge fans of the original 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime and Josiah had gotten to see a portion of it before getting together to do this podcast. We go in depth about the differences and similarities between the original film and this live action adaptation. The discussion also delves into the philosophy of the original movie and how it’s changed for the new film. We all agree this movie delivers a visual feast for the eyes so if you have not seen this movie you should see it for the spectacle alone. This isn’t a perfect movie but we all agree it is worth seeing and worth seeing on the big screen! What do cyborgs like to drink? I don’t’ know but you should drink what you like because it’s time for your monthly shot of Non-Trek Science Fiction!

This week we welcome cosplayer Natalie Schlichtmann on the show to talk about one of her favorite Star Trek episodes A Taste for Armageddon. We open the show introducing our guest and how we met, this segues into talking about the new Star Trek Discovery casting announcement of the classic character of Harry Mudd. Then lastly before getting to the main topic two kickstarters were brought to our attention to talk about on the show. The links are below if you want to check those out! We were thrilled Natalie picked this episode it is a really great episode and one that has been a while since we have seen. The implications of this episode are intriguing and frightening and very applicable to how we wage war today and we wonder how long it will take before everything is automated. True Q is an episode we haven’t revisited in a long time. Off mic we have been talking about doing a Q episode and while David was in transit back home from my trip down south this episode sprung into his mind. Part of the trip randomly are talked about during this episode as we do a bit of rabbit holeing! This is an interesting episode, as all of Q episodes are usually some of the better Star Trek episodes. We see how the intern Amanda Rodgers is actually an new Q. Amanda says she wants to be human and have a normal life but sometimes love gets in the way of the best of intentions. If you have a ton of different rums look up how to make a Warp Core Breach because it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Space Speed is a classic episode of the Original Series that introduces Khan since Trevor is familiar with the JJ film reboots we thought this would be a great place to introduce him to the original series.
