Book Club Episode 19: Dune Part 19

Aaron and David discuss the next two chapters of Dune. But first we discuss the sad news that the latest Dune film adaptation has been pushed back until October of 2021. This week the Fremem held a funeral service for Jamis. While Paul says his words for Jamis he weeps and this helps win the Fremem over to him as Paul unwittingly is working his way to the prophesied one. At the end of the first chapter Paul beliefs his mother to be an enemy. This fuels some good conversation. The next chapter takes us away from Arrakis and to Giedi Prime the homeworld of the Harkonnens. It’s Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen’s birthday and he gets to kill an Atreides slave in the arena. This week Stilgar tries to make his move on lady Jessica but when his advances aren’t met the way he is hoping he lets her know there may be an opening working with a Reverend mother in the clan. Jamis is a poor loser from his fight when first meeting Paul and so challenges Paul to yet another fight but this time the fight is to the death! After this resolves Paul receives his Fremen name.This is the point in the book where things start to get much different in David Lynch’s film adaptation of Dune. This week Duncan Idaho is such a loud drunk that he wakes up Lady Jessica while she is sleeping from down the hall. Duncan has been enjoying the spice beer and hanging with the ladys a little too much. Lady Jessica then has an intense talk with Thufir and debates whether to not tell him she is pregnant with the Duke’s daughter. Duke Leto finds a corpse down the hall and then the almost corpse of the nearly deceased Shadout Mapes. He then discovers that his dentist Doctor Yueh seems to have been sabotaging the generator room. Doctor Yueh gives him some anti speed and replaces his tooth so that he can use it to assassinate Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Pour yourself a cold beverage and listen to more Expanse.
