David and Holly continue to look back on Picards character in preparation for the all new Picard Series coming to CBS in 2020. This episode shows how Picard is treated by the Federation following his Borg assimilation and recovery, but also his reaction to how he is treated. Picard basically admits to being “damaged” goods in this episode, so is he better or worse for his experience with the borg?
We are joined by the talented Guy Davis of the Rocky Mountain Geek Tank podcast and the Star Trek webcomic USS Tamerlane. This episode of Synthaholics we return to the streets of Jean-Luc Picard’s hometown La Barre, France. Picard tries to heal from his assimilation to the Borg by returning to his house that he grew up in. We will meet his brother Robert. We will explore why Robert and Jean-Luc’s relationship is filled with animosity. Guy and Aaron discuss the meanings behind Picard returning home and the psychology behind it.
Guy Davis is back, he joins Holly, Aaron, and David to discuss Light and Shadows the seventh episode of the second season of Star Trek Discovery. Before we take our deep drive into the episode we have news regarding the character descriptions of the new characters appearing in the Picard show. The descriptions of the characters remind Aaron and David of the Star Trek Renegades fan film. This week’s episode splits the party with Michael going looking for spock while the crew of the Discovery deals with a temporal anomaly. This episode is a great set up for what is to come. Some of us enjoyed Light and Shadows and some of didn’t care for it as much. Pour yourself some of your finest futures liquor it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek
Remember the Star Trek Enterprise Twilight where a space anomaly gave poor archer brain parasites that were out of phase with time? This basically makes Archer like the guy in the movie Memento!
Without being able to form new memories Archer can no longer command the Enterprise and this leads to many disasters. But before we get into the episode we talk about some of the props, costumes and ships that were shown off at San Diego Comic Con. Alas we recorded the episode early so we didn’t get to talk about the new trailer this week.
Be sure to listen next week as we will be talking about that new trailer then! Would you give up being able to form new memories if you had T’Pol taking care of you the rest of your life? We ask and answer that question and more on your weekly shot of Star Trek!
When David is missing Aaron and Guy talk Giant cats and comics! This week Synthaholics goes into a deep dive on the Star Trek the animated series episode The Slaver Weapon. What would you put into a time capsule if you knew everything in it would be perfectly preserved? Lets hope it wouldn’t be a selfie, raw meat, and a swiss army gun. But if you did the Kzinti would probably appreciate it. This is one of two episodes where we ever see the Kzinti a bipedal cat like race who is bent on uncovering something to overthrow the federation. Once Aaron and Guy finish talking The Slaver weapon they get into a discussion about Guy’s Star Trek comic the USS Tamerlane. This leads to a segue to a Star Trek The Wrath of Khan and to Star Trek Nemesis! Anything and everything in this week’s episode of Synthaholics!
Guy returns this week to talk Deep Space Nine Rocks and Shoals. That’s two DS9 episodes back to back! But don’t worry we go down some deep rabbit holes for some general Star Trek Voyager discussion as well. But before the main topics we get some of Guy’s feelings to the news that has been happening regarding the upcoming Star Trek Discovery series. This is the episode where you get the famous Sisko pointing angrily Meme in-case you wanted to get a new screen cap of it! Make sure your Vorta isn’t trying to sell you out! It’s time you have your ketracel-white handy and any other alcohol you like to imbibe because “Obedience brings Synthaholics and Synthaholics is life” I think that is how the saying goes……
This week on Synthaholics Fayth has marooned herself on Sherman’s planet. The tribbles have eaten all the food and have gone after this power Cables on her ship! It is imperative that David and Aaron launch a rescue mission to save her from the doom that is Sherman’s planet! But first David and Aaron welcome Guy Davis to the show to talk with us about his Star Trek Webcomic USS Tamerlane. (http://usstamerlane.com/) Guy talks with us about how he first got into Star Trek, into drawing/comics, and how he got into doing a Star Trek comic. We discuss the pros and cons of drawing traditionally vs. drawing digitally and much much more.
