This week our old friend Guy Davis joins us to discuss the rift in the Star Trek Fandom in our first Fandom Wars episode. Guy Davis is on the side of really enjoying what new Star Trek has to offer. While David on the other hand is skeptical of the value if any that the new Star Trek shows have to offer. We get into some spoilers for all Star Trek for all time so be warned. We mostly talk about the general feel of how the new shows are versus the older shows. We however talk much about Alex Kurtzman or Berman specifically in this episode maybe for Fandom Wars Star Trek Part 2! Unfortunately Brian could not make it this week so next week we will cover Sonic 2.
Episode 307 of the Sythaholics podcast is here for your ears and eyes. Hosts David and Brian visit where this podcast all started Star Trek. Join them as they talk about lower decks season two with glowing reviews! Brian learns more about The Borg, Klingons and Vulcans. On their journey from working their way backwards through the season so be prepared for spoilers immediately starting with episode ten and going all the way to one with a long pit stop at eight. If you read this leave us a comment or question! We would like to connect more with you. Until next time, live long and prosper.
Join Sythaholics episode 305 with David and Brian as they transport back to the roots and discuss Star Trek Lower Decks season one! To get a non Trekkies point of view. Where answers to questions like… What characters are best? Which is worse? And why is Lower Decks the best Star Trek content to come recently. So jump in the holodeck with them and go on just about as crazy adventure as lower decks itself.
Welcome to the 300th episode of Synthholics. Aaron and David celebrate this milestone by talking about life, the universe, and everything. This week we look back over almost six years and 300 episodes of Synthaholics. As part of this discussion we explain our current feelings about Star Trek as it currently exists and mention some of our goals for the podcast once we come back from our break. Think of this time as the end of a season and we’ll be back for the next season. We have a listener email this week with some suggestions for the show when we come back. Please feel free to email us during the break and if we have enough emails we could devote an entire episode to reading emails from you the listeners. We will also be around on social media so feel free to message us on Twitter or Facebook and please join the group on Facebook. David is looking into steaming games over Twitch, find the link below. We will see you on Twitch and in episode 301.
Episode 297: Su’Kal, There Is a Tide, & That Hope is You pt 2
It’s 2021 and we are back to discuss the final three episodes of Star Trek Discovery Season Three, “Su’Kal”, “There is a Tide” and “That Hope is You Part 2”. The season wraps things up in a nice bow so they can have yet another fresh start when season four comes along. But did the season wrap things up in a satisfying thought provoking way? Well I’m sure that is something you have to decide for yourself but we invite you to listen to hear our thoughts on if the ending was a satisfying one or not. We also have an announcement at the top of the episode. Time to pour yourself a cold glass of Ni’Varian Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
Episode 296: Star Trek Discovery “Terra Firma, Part 2”
“Terra Firma Part 2” is the tent episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery we finishout out hopefully last episode in the Mirror Universe for the remainder of Star Trek Discovery’s run. We never expected them to go back to the mirror universe this season either. But never say never, right? Georgiou tries to make changes in the Mirror Universe but one person isn’t enough to change the whole tide of the Mirror Universe and Georgiou and Michael end up killing each other. Carl is revealed to be the Guardian of Forever and not a Q even though he gave her a very Q like quest. The Guardian sends Georgiou back to the past of this current time line to star in the Section 31 show that is presumably still happening. Hopefully next episode we will come closer to finding out what caused the burn and what’s up with subspace? Time to pour yourself a cold glass of Ni’Varian Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
Episode 295: Star Trek Discovery “Terra Firma, Part 1”
“Terra Firma Part 1” is the ninth episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and unfortunately the 5th episode of this series mostly set in the Mirror Universe. Aaron and David have a love/hate relationship with this episode. This episode was really solid, it gave us some of that great ensemble cast, and “Terra Firma Part 1” is just so much fun. On the other hand it’s a Mirror Universe episode and it takes us away from the overall plot and it’s a two parter so we have next week’s episode also keeping us away from the burning question “What is the Burn” But boy do we love some Emperor Georgou being a badass. Who is Carl, is he a Q or is he just some new alien native to this new planet? It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Ni’Varian Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
“The Sanctuary” is the eighth episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and unfortunately this episode puts the breaks on what the previous two weeks had been building up to. We are happy to see this episode finally see some of the side characters get something to do. It’s just said it’s not really in service to the overall seasonal arc. (as far as we can tell at this point in the season) Hopefully next episode will get us back on track with the seasonal arc and still help us learn more about our characters on the USS Discovery. It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Ni’Varian Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
Episode 293: Star Trek Discovery “Unification III”
“Unification III” is the seventh episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and we found this to be a well done bottle episode. The Vulcan’s and Romulan’s now live on Vulcan and have renamed the planet to Ni’Var. Ni’Var has some information Michael needs to understand the burn. They will not give up the information freely so Michael evokes an ancient Vulcan ritual to try to forcibly recover the information. This episode is a worthy successor to the first two unification episodes seeing Spock’s hard work finally come to fruition. But will Michael burn Spock’s legacy to the ground? Does Michael finally start to feel like a real person? Listen to find out. It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Ni’Varian Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
“Scavengers” is the sixth episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and the Synthaholics found this episode rather enjoyable. It was a lot of fun and it had some crazy good effects even for Star Trek Discovery. We finally may have a clue to what the burn is but we don’t know for sure yet. Hopefully we will find out next week if this week’s MacGuffin pays off. Is anyone else feeling like this season of Discovery is kind of like the movies where the even numbered episodes are head and shoulders above the odd number episodes? What’s up with Georgiou did Cronenburg do something to her? Or is this something unrelated? It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Romulan Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!
