Episode 217: Tuvix: A Botanical Catastrophe

Episode 217: Tuvix: A Botanical Catastrophe

David is still recuperating from his frolicking on Pandora, so this week it’s just Aaron and Holly trying to wrap their heads around the Trolly Dilemma… sort of. Tuvix is a Voyager episode where Tuvok and Neelix are morphed into one being due to a breed of orchid being present in the transporter beam while the two are beaming back to the ship. There is much to chuckle about throughout this episode, even if it essentially ends in murder -”Give and Take” am I right? So grab a drink or just kick up your feet, and appreciate the fact that you have better friends than Tuvix has. Well… had. #JusticeForTuvix

Episode 193: Jetrel

Episode 193: Jetrel

Episode 193: Jetrel

It’s been a while since we have discussed a Voyager episode so this week Holly, Aaron, and David talk the Star Trek Voyager episode Jetrel. But first we have some news. Aaron discovered on his YouTube feed that he started seeing new videos from the Axanar channel so it seems like that is back in production. This week the third Short Trek the Brightest Star was released and Holly and Aaron caught up on the paste episodes so we discuss our thoughts on Calypso and The Brightest Star.

Jetrel is a Voyager season one episode that centers on Neelix of all people. But this is actually a very solid episode with strong calls to World War II and Robert Oppenheimer. Jetrel is basically Oppenheimer and he developed a weapon of mass destruction that was used on the Talaxians. The episode is ultimately a message about forgiveness and Is really quite well done. Pour yourself a very strong drink, it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 179: Heroes and Demons

Heroes and Demons

Episode 179: Heroes and Demons

As promised last week Aaron and David are back to discuss the Star Trek Voyager episode Heroes and Demons. Before we get into the episode we talk the Star Trek Discovery news that Spock has been cast and the potential names for new Star Trek shows! In Heroes and Demons the Doctor has to bravely go to the Holodeck to find out what happened to Harry, Chakotay, and Tuvok.

Funny thing Aaron and David both remember this episode differently before rewatching. The episode isn’t too much of a thinker because it’s basically Star Trek wanting to do Beowulf. But it is a fun episode seeing the Doctor totally as a fish out of water. Because we wrap up the Heroes and Demons talk early David asks Aaron his thoughts on if there is the potential for a Captain Pike Discovery spin off show. Pour yourself a tankard of mead and grab yourself a side of Elk it’s time for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Episode 169: Hope and Fear

Episode 169: Hope and Fear

Episode 169: Hope and Fear

Holly Michelle is back joining David and Aaron on a discussion of the Star Trek Voyager season four finale “Hope and Fear”! This week there isn’t much news but we do have a long listener email that we do read and respond to this episode. This episode is one of the few Star Trek season finales that aren’t set up to be a mid season cliffhanger.

In “Hope and Fear” Ray Wise guest stars as Arturis an alien who claims to be a walking universal translator. Arturis helps decode a transmission from Starfleet that leads the Voyager crew to a ship the USS Dauntless. The USS Dauntless is equipped with a slipstream drive to get Voyager home in just three months! Is Arturis really a nice guy, is this just too good to be true? You might want to slipstream some booze in to your coffee to find this out, on your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Synthaholics Episode 144: Janeway, Ransom, and the Equinox

Episode 144: Janeway, Ransom, and the Equinox

Episode 144: Janeway, Ransom, and the Equinox

This week we have a request to talk about the Star Trek Voyager Episode Equinox. This request came from the Synthaholics Facebook group around when Episode 4 of Star Trek Discovery aired. Comparisons were made between Captain Ransom and Lorca so we thought this would be a fun episode to touch on while Star Trek Discovery is still fresh in our minds. If you ever make contact with a green floating alien don’t try to make fuel out of it! If you are looking for drink ideas check out the Synthaholics YouTube channel. There you will find some drink to try while you enjoy your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Synthaholics Episode 125: The Killing Game with Adam Herr

Episode 125: The Killing Game with Adam Herr

Episode 125: The Killing Game with Adam Herr

This week Aaron and David discuss the Killing Game with Adam Herr. Adam Herr is a member of The Geekiverse and we’ve had different guests from the Geekivers in the past.

This week is an extra long episode clocking in at just over two hours because we have about 40 minutes of discussion of news and and rabbit holes. We finally get around to discussing the new SDCC Star Trek Discovery Trailer and get into some of the articles that have been released since SDCC.

Once we get past the news we talk about Adam’s favorite episode of Star Trek Voyager The Killing Game! This is a holodeck two parter episode where the Hirogen have taken over Voyager and forced Harry Kim to convert the ship into a giant holodeck. Meanwhile the Hirogen run programs where they can hunt the crew of Voyager over and over again. This is a fun episode as many of the hologram episodes tend to be. There are some strange leaps this episode makes and we have fun getting into all of them. Make whatever drink you are having a triple because this weekly shot of Star Trek is a long one!

Episode 118: Wild Hologram Virtuoso

Synthaholics Episode 118: Wild Hologram Virtuoso

Synthaholics Episode 118: Wild Hologram Virtuoso

Have you seen the Wild Hologram Virtuoso? This week we talk about the Star Trek Voyager Episode Virtuoso where the doctor gets a bit wild to the point of resigning his commission to be a professional singer to a race that finds him to be a primitive holo matrix. After hearing Erin Gray audition for Janeway on Voyager David can’t watch Voyager without thinking about that. Aaron brings up what it must be like for the doctor where none of his friends seem to appreciate his other talents and skill other than doctoring. So we both talk times in our life where our talents may not have been appreciated. This discussion leads into some thoughts about our education system as a whole. Virtuoso brings up some of the same thoughts and ideas about the personhood and the sentience of holographic beings that were brought out last week on Holograms Gone Wild. We hope you enjoy your weekly shot of Star Trek!
