Episode 293: Star Trek Discovery “Unification III”

“Unification III” is the seventh episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and we found this to be a well done bottle episode. The Vulcan’s and Romulan’s now live on Vulcan and have renamed the planet to Ni’Var. Ni’Var has some information Michael needs to understand the burn. They will not give up the information freely so Michael evokes an ancient Vulcan ritual to try to forcibly recover the information. This episode is a worthy successor to the first two unification episodes seeing Spock’s hard work finally come to fruition. But will Michael burn Spock’s legacy to the ground? Episode 292: Star Trek Discovery “Scavengers”

“Scavengers” is the sixth episode of season three of Star Trek Discovery and the Synthaholics found this episode rather enjoyable. It was a lot of fun and it had some crazy good effects even for Star Trek Discovery. We finally may have a clue to what the burn is but we don’t know for sure yet. Hopefully we will find out next week if this week’s MacGuffin pays off. Is anyone else feeling like this season of Discovery is kind of like the movies where the even numbered episodes are head and shoulders above the odd number episodes? Aaron and David discuss the next two chapters of Dune. Paul calls for a big meeting so he can murder Stilgar to make all the Freman happy. But he decides to Knight Silgar instead. After Knighting Stilgar Gurney Halleck decides he should murder Lady Jessica but luckily Paul is able to talk him out of it. Once his mother is safe Paul decides it would be a great time to take a three week coma and so he drinks the water of life. We are nearing the end of the first dune book; the final battle is on its way. Pour yourself a cold beverage and listen to more Dune, enjoy together responsibly!

Episode 291: Star Trek Discovery “Die Trying”

Aaron has escaped this transporter accident and he joins David to discuss “Die Trying” the fifth episode of the third season of Star Trek Discovery. This episode started off strong with a nice captains log and a brief look at some new StarFleet ships. We see the USS Nog, the Voyager – J, and what they called a new version of the constitution class. The StarFleet Admiral isn’t too happy to have the time traveling crew but that’s nothing a classic fetch quest can’t fix. We were hoping to see some answers this week as we finally have our crew of the USS Discovery back in the heart of the federation but “Die Trying” has no answers and just leaves us with more questions. Emperor Georgou and her debriefing hold some of the most interesting things said and not said in this episode. We can’t wait to find out what all that is about. It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Romulan Ale, for your weekly shot of Star Trek!

Paul is ready to start a war, so he releases a Sardaukar captain so the emperor can know that the new Duke of Dune is still alive and well. Episode 289: Star Trek Discovery People of Earth

Aaron and David are here to discuss “People of Earth”, the third episode of Star Trek Discovery Season 3. After hugs and tears the reunited crew of the USS Discovery and book head to earth. Things are a lot different than they expected them to me. Earth provides for itself and doesn’t seem to know what’s going on beyond its atmosphere. This has us scratching our heads as to why this would be. On the bright side we meet a young human named Adira who has a trill symbiont inside of her. Adira seems pretty interesting and we are looking forward to what happens with the Trill.Will Adira keep it? WIll she be able to unlock all the memories of the symbiont? The upcoming Las Vegas Trek conventions have to be unofficial. “That Hope is You” featured michels time coming out of the worm hole this week we get to see what happens with Discovery as it comes out of the worm hole. Overall we really enjoyed this episode. What is going on with Keyla Detmer? Is she the latest crewmember to be infected by control? Or does she just have a concussion? Is control really dead? Aaron and David discuss the next two chapters of Dune. This time we are hanging out with the lovely Harkonnens of Giedi Prime. The Baron is very upset to learn his boytoy of the day has an imperfection, a poisoned dart put there by his nephew Feyd-Rautha. The Baron confronts Feyd and tells him to think bigger as the barron is trying to set up Feyd to become emperor. Meanwhile Thufir Hawat plots to take down the Harkonnens while doing mentat mathing work for them. It was nice to get off Arrakis for a bit to learn more about the enemy.
